About         Danes
My name is Sherry Matthews and I live in Dittmer Missouri, which
is just outside of St. Louis.
My love affair with Danes started when I was in my early 20's when
I had my first the opportunity to have my own dog. From early
childhood I had wanted a big dog but my family always had small
ones, so when I got my first house, it was my chance. I researched
several different breeds of large dogs and found the personality,
temperament and physical attributes of the Dane were most
appealing to me. For the better part of the last 37 years I have
shared my life with them and have never regretted a minute of it.
I was in Dane rescue for 5 years, first as a foster parent and Girl
Friday of a group; then as the founder and president of my own
rescue. During those years I was directly or indirectly responsible
for rescuing and re-homing about 175 Great Danes.
I worked as a veterinarian assistant for 10 years, which was very
helpful while I was doing rescue and has been and will continue to
be useful to me as a breeder.
The name of my kennel is from the Lakota Sioux language, it is
pronounced Wash-day Cola and translates as Good Friend. All
of my puppies are breed to be healthy in mind and body, have
great temperaments and to be your
good friend.I am breeding for
health, temperament, intelligence and substance.
I have had all of my breeding dogs since they were puppies, and I
have taken all of them to classes to get their Canine Good Citizen
award from the American Kennel Club.
I am having all of them tested for heart disease, thyroid disease,
and hip disease as certified by the OFA and eye disease as
certified by CERF.
I want your experiences with these amazing dogs to be as
wonderful as mine have been.
All of my puppies are raised in my home so are accustom to the
normal house sounds; the dishwasher, television, vacuum sweeper.
Plus, they are exposed to other dogs and cats, and even though I
have no children, I recruit my friends kids to come over and play
with them. I handle them daily from the time they are born and once
they are able to, I start playing with them, so they are very well
socialized. I start taking them out side around 4 weeks of age,
weather permitting,  to get the feel of grass and start the potty
training process.
I have 6 pages of health information listed on this site, a great many
useful links and other helpful information. I feel it is important to
help make the public aware of anything that affects the welfare of
the Great Dane.
